Sustainability Project Part 1 “Favorite Places”

One of my favorite public places is DownTown Silver Spring. It has become one of my favorite places because is an open public place that offers people with a beautiful scene. There is always something to do in Downtown Silver Spring whether it is sitting around the fountain and just reading a book outside to watching live performances. The shopping center is also a plus and overall, it just brings the community together. There are many restaurants in the shopping center and it is great having the option to eat outside and enjoy the view.

Another one of my Favorite public places is North Four Corners Park. I really enjoy this public place because it brings different people from the community together. They have a park where families can bring the young ones but they also have a tennis court where the older kids can play. In addition to that, they all have benches where people can sit, read or eat and they have a running trail that goes around the park.  It is also great, that there is parking specifically for the park so for those people who are not walking distance can still use the park. Overall, I find this place to be fun and interactive.

Class reflection: I believe that both of these sites include all three elements of sustainability. For example, downtown Silver Spring includes the economy because it has many restaurants and stores around, saves the environment by blocking car traffic and promotes the societal aspect because many people from different backgrounds and economic backgrounds are able to come together in one space. North Four Corners Park fulfills the environment because there are many trees and greenery around it. Also, it is open to everyone and the planners thought about different age groups(inter-generational)  that were going to use the park. Also, the provided parking so people can buy food near four corners shopping center and then eat it at the park. Based on the 3 elements of sustainability, I agree that it does take all three of those factors to create a sustainable environment but I believe it requires more that that. For example, I think it is also important to consider other factors such as different cultural backgrounds and how to properly communicate the needs of the community to developers.
